Hannah & Claire
As a brand that celebrates, encourages, and admires courageous makers, we created this series to endorse the ones that have made taking chances look easy. By subscribing to our newsletter and following along on this page, you’ll get to meet new makers every first of the month, and learn the ins-and-outs of what it takes to make it all happen.
Hannah and Claire are cut from the same cloth, and they just so happened to turn that cloth into clothing. As two best friends with contagious creative energy and a dream in common, they created Revival Trading Co., a brand that brings retro graphics, pun-inspired sayings, and a vintage, western style to life through an iconic line of merchandise. Whether it’s in the form of a tee or hoodie, Revival translates inclusivity, sustainability, and creative expression into authentic and one-of-a-kind pieces. So, not only do people rep their products, but above all, their products represent and reflect the people that wear them.
Q: Tell us about your business!
A: "We really are just two best friends that always knew we’d one day want to start something together. For the longest time we never really knew what exactly that was going to be, but we have always been grounded in honoring our creative and fun approach to life and striving to make an impact - thus Revival, as we know it today, was born.
Revival is a sustainable clothing brand made for every person, body, and moment. We pride ourselves on intentionally making things that are fun, functional, and limitless. We reject the idea that clothing has to be one identity, one gender, one purpose, or one aesthetic. We are all multi-faceted people, so we believe your clothes should be too!
"
Q: What inspired you to start making?
A: "Is it bad to say one bad LSAT score and a miserable work-life balance in the Bay? Just kidding. But in reality, we have always been creatively inclined people. From painting and videography to acting and dancing (that’s right, major theatre kid energy), we have always preferred a creative path yet we have only seriously pursued more rigid and traditional majors and career paths. Although it took one bad summer doing things we both didn’t enjoy for us to pull the trigger on Revival, we have individually been creatives since childhood and it was just a matter of time before we joined forces and created together."
Q: Walk us through your creative process...
A: "Our process always starts with a lightbulb moment - whether that’s thinking of a random phrase in the middle of the night and writing it down in our notes or having a funny conversation and both turning to each other saying “that would be a sick shirt”. Once we nail down an idea that we’re super inspired by we start visualizing every aspect from font, to imagery, to colors, to how we’re going to market it. After many hours of designing, editing, and designing all over again we finally settle on a piece that we absolutely love. Sometimes that process takes days and sometimes months and that’s what makes our pieces so authentic and intentional."
Q: What would you say makes your business special?
A: "The bones of Revival began as a creative outlet. Sewing up shirts, forming earrings out of clay, and editing pictures in Photoshop were never limited to a singular color palette or aesthetic. The best part is that there are no bounds on what is and what isn’t Revival, creating a space to constantly reinvent our style and our brand and always staying true to what authentically represents us in the present moment.
Sometimes that means creating a western hoodie with a cheeky saying or a traditionally masculine hat, fit for all outdoor needs. We’ve also been so lucky to share our creative outlet with all of our amazingly talented friends and fellow creatives. Whether that’s creating a gift guide to showcase their talents to our audience or utilizing their amazing photography skills we feel so blessed to have such a talented community.
"
Q: What do you see for the future of your business?
A:  "For now, we are really focused on building out our online presence and expanding our audience. We have a few different collaborations in the works and are finding new and creative ways to represent Revival, which is really exciting. With each new piece we are creating, or person we are working with, we are striving to diversify our brand so we can really be the brand for anyone's personal brand.
Our long-term, lofty goal is to open a physical store that not only showcases our individual pieces, but allows us to feature a curated collection of our fellow favorite creatives. So much of our business' identity is being inclusive to different stylistic elements so we are super excited about the possibility of one day curating a shop that showcases our diverse creative community.
