Paint by Pottery
diy recrafted vases
With ceramic as our canvas, we brought paintbrush to pottery to create a minimal masterpiece. Whether they are tall or short, simple or abstract, or glass or clay, you can transform your thrifted finds into the trendy, textured vases of your home decor dreams, all by using a simple paint concoction.

To take your vases from secondhand to centerpiece, follow along below and watch our process here!
before & after
Supplies
Sandpaper**
Baking Powder
Foam or Paintbrush(es)
Vase(s)
Water-based, acrylic paint
Paint PREPARATION
1.  Combine a tablespoon of baking powder for every cup of paint
*In our case, we used 2 teaspoons of baking powder for every 2 oz bottle of paint
*You can add more or less baking powder based on the texture you want to achieve
2.  Mix the two ingredients to create a thick, slightly grainy mixture
Vase Transformation
**Optional: Use sandpaper on glass or shiny vases before painting to help the mixture stick to the surface better
1.  Start by applying a thin layer of your paint combination around the circumference of your vase, leaving the inside and lip for last.
*This will allow you to maneuver the vase while you paint without smudging the sides
2.  Once the first layer has started to dry, apply a second coating to add more texture and increase color opacity
3.  Finish it off by painting the inside and lip of the vase to the extent you desire
*Remember, if you are planning on filling the vase you don't need to paint to the very bottom!
And just like that, you’ve got yourself a vase worth the big bucks, without having to pay them (we won’t tell anyone if you don’t). We hope you enjoyed crafting your ceramic creation as much as we did.
Happy Holidays and happy painting!
