a very citrus Christmas
diy holiday garland
The best way to spread Christmas cheer, is making a garland for every tree near.

Add a little zest to your collection of pine, with this simple, citrus garland recipe. By following along, you’ll be one step (or should I say nine steps) closer to a six-foot string of dried, decorative fruit to deck the halls of your home.

Ingredients
2 grapefruits
2 oranges
2 limes
Jute rope or twine
Large sewing needle
Fruit Preparation
1.   Cut the fruit into quarter of an inch thick slices
2.   Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper
3.   Bake at 250 degrees for three to four hours, flipping the slices every hour

4.   Once the pieces of fruit have hardened and lost most of their moisture, place them on a drying rack overnight to finish cooling
Garland ASSEMBLY
1.   Thread your rope of choice through your needle
2.   Weave it through the top right corner of the fruit slice, just below the rind, and pull the rope through
      * Make sure to leave at least 12 inches between the first slice and the end of the rope to be able to knot and hang later
3.   Next, weave and thread the rope through the opposite corner of the slice
4.   Repeat steps two & three on the remaining slices (pushing each piece to be side-to-side this time).
      * Don’t be afraid to mix up the arrangement of your slices and put them in a pattern of your choice!
5.   Once all of your fruit is sewn together, tie each end of the garland to form knotted loops, to now be easily hung from your tree or surface of choice.
Whether you’re huddled with family, or cuddled up on your own this year, you can still find ways to be festive without the normal festivities. With this quick and easy citrus garland recipe, you can add some Christmas cheer across your mantle, around your tree, or anywhere that needs some merrying in almost no time at all.
From our family to yours,
Happy Holidays.
